Queen’s Law will offer its International Law Programs in May and June 2026. This program is open to uOttawa law students through a Letter of Permission opportunity.

This unique learning experience combines an intensive 8-week academic program with field study visits to law firms, international organizations, and international courts. Courses are taught by leading instructors and guest lecturers who are prominent figures in international law and bring valuable practical experience to the classroom. The program also includes several networking opportunities, such as a career options evening with alumni and friends. Students may choose to study International Business Law, International Environmental Law, or Public International Law.

This course will allow students to explore the legal and policy issues surrounding Community Wealth Building in Canada. In recent years a host of factors have eroded the boundaries between non-profit, government and business sectors, leading to numerous social innovations in dealing with community sustainability and economic development in disadvantaged communities and the agencies which serve them.

Students will examine the primary regulatory issues which have emerged in this area, including: Corporate organization (Community Interest Corporations); tax (CRA & CED/social enterprise regulations); nonprofit/charitable (Program Related Investments, responsible/mission based investing).

A special emphasis will be placed on understanding the “impact investment” framework that is emerging to finance these developments. During the course students will meet social entrepreneurs and leaders in the field of community economic/social enterprise development and impact investment/social finance.

Artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare. From accelerated drug development to precision diagnostics and personalized treatment, the landscape is rapidly changing. Yet, while health AI offers tremendous promise, it also brings numerous risks and challenges, for instance, relating privacy, safety and liability, informed consent, and bias and discrimination.

This course will unpack health AI and its many intersections with law. We will investigate the degree to which existing legal frameworks, such as privacy laws, equality guarantees, and tort law principles, are adequate to address the risks. We will also take up issues relating to specific health-AI applications, such as mental health apps and AI in women’s health. Throughout, we will discuss possible law reform, including the potential role and shape of bespoke AI legislation in Canada.

Upper year English and French common law students are invited to participate in uOttawa’s Family Law Negotiation Competition - the tryouts for the Walsh Negotiation Competitive Team.

Winners of the tryouts comprise the competitive team that trains under Professor Rockman in the winter term (a three-credit, graded course) and represents our school at the province-wide Walsh Family Law Negotiation Competition in Toronto on March 8^th.

The uOttawa Negotiation Competition will be held on Saturday, October 26^th.

Students compete in pairs. You may propose your own partner, and every effort will be made to accommodate you. If you do not propose a partner, you will be assigned one.

Winners are selected individually.

International Research and Experiential Learning is pleased to announce the launch of three new programs designed to foster global research collaborations and opportunities at the University of Ottawa:

• The Doctoral Mobility Program for inbound students from Europe and Latin America who would like to conduct research visits at the University of Ottawa.
• The new Global Open Program for uOttawa early career researchers from all disciplines who would like to initiate new collaborations with partners anywhere in the world.
• The new Network Development Program for uOttawa researchers from all disciplines who would like to develop and expand new research collaborations with Asian partners with the eventual goal of establishing a self-sustaining research network.
