Word from the Dean

Kristen Boon

Happy New Year, and welcome back.

I hope the break gave you some time to rest, reconnect, and recharge. As we begin the new term, I encourage you to carry forward the practices—big or small—that helped you feel grounded over the past few weeks. In demanding environments like law school, consistency often matters more than intensity.

Many leaders speak about the importance of simple rituals in sustaining focus and well-being: starting the day the same way, protecting time for movement, or building regular pauses into a busy schedule. Regular exercise, even in short and manageable forms, is often highlighted as one of the most effective ways to manage stress and maintain perspective. These habits are not about perfection, but about creating steady anchors in the midst of full schedules.

Law school is rigorous, but it is also an exciting and deeply rewarding time. Taking care of your well-being—academically, personally, and emotionally—is an essential part of your success. If at any point you need support, I encourage you to make use of the counselling, wellness, and academic support services offered by the University and the Faculty. You are not expected to navigate this experience on your own.

The habits you build now will serve you well, not only during your studies, but throughout your legal career.

I wish you a healthy, steady, and successful start to 2026. I look forward to all that you will accomplish this term.
