Word from the Dean

Kristen Boon

As September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, draws near, we wish to remind our community that this day calls us to reflect on some of the more painful chapters of our shared history in Canada.   Also known as Orange Shirt Day, it is a time to remember and discuss the legacy of residential schools.  It is equally a moment for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples, to come together in the spirit of hope and reconciliation.

This year, September 30 falls on a Tuesday. We encourage you to participate in the ceremony on campus  at 9:30 a.m. in University Square as a way of coming together as a community in reflection and solidarity. Numerous on-campus activities and events are scheduled in conjunction with National Day for Truth and Reconciliation; these provide great opportunities to learn and get involved.

Reconciliation is a shared responsibility, but it also begins with each of us. Thank you for your commitment to learning, for the compassion you show in your daily actions, and for contributing to a future rooted in justice and respect.
