The Office of the Vice-President, External Relations
External Relations supports the University in its teaching and scholarship mission by raising the University's profile, building internal and external alliances and strategic partnerships, and generating funding opportunities and revenue.
The External Relations team is responsible for development activities, alumni affairs, government relations, marketing, communications, media relations and language services, and for ensuring that these activities are conducted in harmony with the University's mission.
The Development Office raises funds in support of the University's priorities. These are primarily philanthropic donations from individuals, corporations and foundations, sponsorship and research support for specific projects.
The Development team works in and with faculties and departments to identify opportunities where donors can be instrumental to enhancing the university's programs, research and student support. Our fundraising priorities are aligned with the University of Ottawa's vision and mission and directly support the university's goals.
Working in collaboration with the Alumni Association, faculties, student groups and other central services, the Alumni Relations Office offers programs and services to our alumni, faculties and the University as a whole. The Alumni Relations Office nurtures lifelong relationships created by the university experience by increasing active alumni involvement in, and support of, university life.
The Communications Directorate (CD) protects and enhances the reputation of the University of Ottawa and supports its strategic vision. In cooperation with the faculties and services, the CD promotes the University's values, image and brand.
The CD tells the uOttawa story to local, national and international media, opinion leaders, potential students, key stakeholders such as alumni and donors, and the general public. It also communicates news and information about the University of Ottawa to faculty, students and staff.
The CD provides media relations, crisis management, advertising design and placement, brand management, communication tools, social media strategies, communication guidelines, and strategic planning for online communications, and much more.
Professional translation, editing and usage-consultation services to help the University of Ottawa run smoothly.
Our team translates and edits a wide range of administrative and promotional documents in French and English for academic and administrative units on campus.
In addition, we offer consultations on grammar, style and terminology.
Finally, if you work or teach at the University and have course or research material, professional association texts or personal documents that need translation or editing, we can refer you to off-campus specialists from our freelance pool, who'll be happy to give you a time and price estimate.
Government Relations Office
The Government Relations Office serves as the University's liaison with all levels of government. Through the formation and enhancement of strategic relations, the Office advances understanding of and support for the University's mission of teaching and scholarship.
The Director, Government Relations initiates and oversees activities and communications on behalf of the University community ensuring that they are consistent with the University's overall objectives, as well as monitors and reports on government activities that may impact the University.
The Resources and Information Office
The Resources and Information Office supports and guides External Relations in the areas of constituent database and technology infrastructure management, business analysis and reporting, prospect management and research, gift and biographic records management, campaign reporting, and project and fund management.
This office also provides strategic planning and resource allocation, budget management, human and physical resource services to External Relations.
