Leadership and Management Program

Take your leadership skills to the next level

The Leadership and Management Program aims to support the University community leaders as they manage their teams and change. Based on a new profile of leadership skills, it has been designed to meet needs identified at uOttawa and has been extensively evaluated during a pilot project with two cohorts of leaders.

Target groups

The Leadership and Management Program has been designed to meet the needs of two leadership groups:

Group 1

  • Members of the SSUO bargaining unit with a supervisory role
  • Members of the UOITP bargaining unit with a supervisory role
  • Employees in the NC job category with a supervisory role

Group 2

  • Employees in the NM job category group with a supervisory role

Eligibility criteria

Group 1 

  • Full-time regular employee
  • Member of SSUO or UOITP bargaining unit or in an NC position
  • Approval of immediate superior
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience
  • Commitment to completing all elements of the program (approx. 45 hours)

Group 2 

  • Full-time regular employee in an NM position
  • Approval of immediate superior
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience
  • Commitment to completing all elements of the program (approx. 52 hours)
Competency profile
Selection

Individuals wishing to participate in the Leadership and Management Program must apply for the program. All employees in a supervisory role who meet the application criteria can apply for the program.

A committee will be struck to select participants from among the eligible candidates. For the 2017–2018 year, the committee will select 15 group 1 participants and 15 group 2 participants.

The committee will comprise:

  • one faculty CAO representative
  • one service CAO representative
  • one Human Resources representative
  • one pilot project participant

A detailed evaluation grid containing the following criteria will be used by the selection committee members to evaluate the candidates’ application.

  • Ability to develop your self-awareness, including your strengths and weaknesses
  • Commitment to your team and to the University
  • Interest in developing or improving behavioural and management competencies
  • Willingness to involve immediate superior and your team in your development
Important dates
  • Application period: September 25, 2017 to October 13, 2017
  • Selection process: October 16, 2017 to October 31, 2017
  • Decisions: November 3, 2017
