"Populists Without Parties: Are Left-Wing and Right-Wing Populists in Quebec Disengaged Citizens?"
Apr 4, 2024 — 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Join us to discover the link between support for populism and certain forms of political participation.
About the event:
Audrey Gagnon, a postdoctoral researcher at CRIDAQ, will analyze the link between support for populism and certain forms of political participation using a survey of 5,633 Quebecers. The results indicate that left-wing populists are less likely to vote than other citizens. Their right-wing counterparts show a greater propensity to engage in non-institutional and semi-institutional forms of action that allow them to voice their grievances directly to elected representatives. Despite the fundamental differences between right-wing and left-wing populists, all perceive that violence can be a means of political action. The conference will be commented by Efe Peker.
