Rules of the Dining Hall

The policies below will allow us to serve you safely and ensure equal access to all students.

You are free to visit the Dining Hall at any time during opening hours.

All diners within the Dining Hall must comply with the following rules:

  1. You need your uOttawa ID card to enter at ALL times.
  2. It’s all-you-care-to-eat IN the Dining Hall — theft of food, dishware or cutlery isn’t allowed.
  3. Cash payers have up to three hours to dine.
  4. Don’t waste. Take what you can eat. You can always go back for seconds.
  5. You can take single-serve items from the Dining Hall when you leave, such as a single piece of fruit, a muffin or a refill of your reusable coffee mug. However, you can’t make a lunch to go, like a sandwich, or fill up plastic containers with food.
  6. Share the space. Don’t take up space with your belongings. If you do, you’ll be asked to move to a smaller table during peak periods.
  7. Emergency exits are for emergencies only. Sneaking your friends into the Dining Hall isn’t allowed.
  8. Pick up your dishes when you’re done.
  9. No vaping or cannabis products are allowed.
  10. If you’re intoxicated, we won’t let you enter.
  11. If you want to eat in your pajamas, that’s ok — as long as you’re wearing something!
  12. Our employees want to give you the best service — just give them your respect.
  13. Look out for your personal belongings at all times.
  14. Not everyone wants to hear your music. Use headphones.
  15. No outside food, beverages or opened cans or containers are allowed inside the Dining Hall, only reusable travel mugs and refillable water bottles.
  16. Sleeping inside the Dining Hall isn’t allowed.

Individuals who fail to comply with these Terms and Conditions, or with the general rules, regulations, or directives that apply to entry to and use of the Dining Hall, may be denied entry to the Dining Hall or will be asked to leave. Depending on the severity of the circumstances, such individuals may be subject to further measures or loss of privileges.
