Jan Grabowski distinguished by Lund University, Sweden

The historian Jan Grabowski received an honorary doctor at the Faculty of Humanities at Lund University, Sweden.

Jan Grabowski, Professor of History at the University of Ottawa, has spent the last twenty years researching issues related to Jewish-Polish relations during the Holocaust. His research has had a significant impact on the field of Holocaust studies, highlighting previously understudied aspects of Holocaust history. Among other things, his research sheds light on the so-called third phase of the Holocaust, or the period that followed the liquidations of the ghetto populations in occupied Europe.

Prof. Grabowski is the author of several monographs, including “Hunt for the Jews: Betrayal and Murder in German-Occupied Poland” (2013), which received the 2014 Yad Vashem International Book Prize. Together with Barbara Engelking, he has recently published “Night without End: The Fate of Jews in German-occupied Poland” (2022).

The Department of History offers its warmest congratulations to Prof. Grabowski, on receiving the prestigious degree.
