Overview
The Maya Intercultural University of Quintana Roo / Universidad Intercultural Maya de Quintana Roo (UIMQROO) is part of the Mexican network of intercultural universities, which are post-secondary institutions co-funded by each state and the federation. Their study and curriculum design programs follow regionally identified needs that aim at increasing higher education coverage for Indigenous and rural youth while promoting a linguistically and culturally pertinent education. During this two-part seminar, Professor Chuc Maldonado will highlight the General Law of Linguistic Rights of Indigenous Peoples, present UIMQROO´s intercultural bilingual model and programs, and explain the Yucatec Maya language teaching certification process.

Marlene Chuc Maldonado
Maya Intercultural University
Professor Marlene Chuc Maldonado is the head of the Languages and Intercultural Department at the Maya Intercultural University of Quintana Roo (UIMQROO), in Mexico. Previously, she was in charge of UIMQROO´s Mobility Program and Intercultural Languages Learning Center. She has a master´s degree in Education and a bachelor's degree in English. She is a certified teacher of English and Spanish as a Second Language.
