Biography

Professor Jean-Philippe St-Pierre received his M.Eng. degree in Biomedical Engineering from McGill University in 2004 and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2011. His doctoral research focused on the development of tissue engineering approaches for the repair of damaged and diseased articular cartilage under the supervision of Professor Rita Kandel.

Professor St-Pierre pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at Imperial College London in the UK, where he developed new biomaterials to elicit controlled cellular responses and established new approaches to characterize and compare engineered and native tissues in Professor Molly Stevens' group. He joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Ottawa in 2017.

The St-Pierre Biomaterials Lab is primarily focused on the development of novel materials for applications in tissue regeneration and in the fabrication of 3D tissue models that can serve to improve our understanding of physiological and pathological processes and to screen therapeutic interventions.
