After receiving his PhD from the University of Waterloo, Mike Munro spent a Postdoctoral year (1977) in the Engineering Department at the University of Cambridge.

He then joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1978 as an Assistant Professor. He retired from the Department in June, 2010. In the intervening years he conducted research on the design, manufacturing and testing of fibre-reinforced polymer composites and components (flywheels, presure vessels and sports equipment; many projects were in collaboration with Dr. Atef Fahim). His main contributions to the Department were in the areas of curriculum development and innovative teaching methods.
