What is the IBM Z Career Connection?

This two-hour event is focused on employment opportunities, specifically on mainframe and application developer roles for IBM clients. Learn about IBM's free skill development platform, IBM Z Xplore. With the industry recognized badges obtained in IBM Z Xplore, students will get access to upcoming virtual career fairs amongst other opportunities!  

The Z Career Connection event will be followed by a free virtual career fair event in the Fall where students who have completed the IBM Z Xplore will be able to connect with several of Canada’s largest companies.

  • Welcome / Introduction: 5 min
  • Welcome to Mainframe and IBM Z: 10 min
  • Rock your Career presentation: 10 min
  • Local IBM Z Client to present: 15 min: Client will share how they use the mainframe and the skills they look for in hiring employees.  
  • New to Z Guest Speaker: 10 min.  Speaker will share how they got started on the mainframe, tips, and tricks to finding the perfect role, share “a day in the life of a mainframer”.
  • IBM Z Xplore:  30 min - Students will learn how to access IBM zSystem’s Premier Learning Platform, how to earn industry recognized badges, and register to get started.
  • Virtual Career Fair Day discussion: 10 min. Students will learn how to participate in the virtual career fair and be potentially interviewed by clients.  
  • Q&A: 10 min
