Biography

Erin Dobbelsteyn is currently completing her LL.M. in Global Sustainability and Environmental Law at the University of Ottawa. She is the recipient of the 2019–2020 Environmental Justice Research Fellowship and her master’s research focuses on the mental health impacts of climate change and the right to security of the person under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.   

After completing her LL.M., Erin will begin her Ph.D. in Law at the University of Ottawa. Erin’s doctoral research will explore the Canadian Constitution’s potential to secure the protection of public health in the era of climate change and consider alternative conceptions of justice that would encourage a shift from a focus on individual rights to collective responsibilities.  

Erin completed her JD with a specialization in Health Law & Policy at Dalhousie University and holds a B.Sc. in Neuroscience from McGill University. Before returning to academia, Erin practiced law for five years, gaining extensive experience in regulatory, health, and administrative law.
