poster for beading circle, June 11 2025

Drop in, bead, and be part of something beautiful.

This gathering offers a welcoming space for all skill levels to practice beading—a vital expression of Indigenous legal tradition and relational learning.

Throughout the year, our community has gathered to design and bead custom stoles to honour Indigenous students at convocation. In June, we will focus on making Àbimì pins for the families and loved ones of the Indigenous graduates. These pins feature Àbimì, meaning “to defend” in Anishinaabe, and a powerful symbol of community and shared journey. Àbimì is a white bear, created with love and meaning, who carries the Two-Row Wampum Belt (Guswenta), which passes through her eyes and her heart.

Whether you're a seasoned beader or completely new, you are warmly invited to join. Our Beading Circle is about more than technique—it's a space for listening, laughter, and building bonds, in keeping with this year’s theme of humility and its spiritual byproduct, sharing.
