The Common Law Section welcomes visiting researcher Dr. Kazuki Hagiwara
The Common Law Section is pleased to welcome Dr. Kazuki Hagiwara, an expert in the law of treaties, international economic law and international environmental law, who will join the law school as visiting researcher from September 2021 to August 2022.

Dr. Hagiwara’s research focuses on sustainable development in international law, with a particular interest in how to regulate State activities related to natural resources management. While at uOttawa, he will study institutional cooperation for sustainable natural resources management in international law.

His current research also looks at domestic public policy space and international economic law. He is interested in exploring the scope and limitations of the law of treaties in solving contemporary issues in the international community. His recent publications, for example, deal with topical problems related to the law of treaties, such as the unilateral treaty suspension of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

Dr. Hagiwara holds Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Yokohama National University, in Japan, as well as an LL.M. from the University of Ottawa. In 2016 he joined the Faculty of Law, Fukuoka University, Japan, as a tenured Lecturer.

The Common Law Section wishes a warm welcome to Dr. Hagiwara.
