Biography

Anne-Mary Abe, MBBS, MSc, FRCPsych, FRCPC obtained her MBBS from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria in 2002 and went on to complete six years of post-graduate training in psychiatry in London, primarily at the prestigious Maudsley Hospital, with subspecialty training in consultation and liaison (C/L) psychiatry and neuropsychiatry. She holds subspecialty accreditation in liaison psychiatry and addictions psychiatry. She obtained a Master of Science degree in Neuroscience from Kings College London in 2012 and has a graduate certificate in academic practice from the same institution. Between 2012 and 2017 she worked as a consultation-liaison psychiatrist and neuropsychiatrist. She served as clinical lead of the consult-liaison psychiatry department at the University Hospital Southampton, UK. She also worked as a neuropsychiatrist with the epilepsy surgery service and with somatic symptoms disorders. For the past three years, she has worked in various settings (emergency, inpatient, C/L and neuropsychiatry) in Alberta at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. She is wrapping up a two-year diploma program in Applied Neuropsychology from the University of Bristol, which she will complete in 2021. She has been involved in a half dozen research teams, including the CODES trail of cognitive behavioural therapy for dissociative non-epileptic seizures. As part of her TOH position, she will spend 3 days per week in neuropsychiatry providing care in the Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, and Acquired Brain Injury Clinics at TOH. She will spend 1 day on C/L psychiatry and another day engaged in education and career development. She has a passion for teaching and her career development program will involve curriculum development in neuropsychiatry for our residency program in addition to program development for neuropsychiatric care in the Division of Neurology. Her career development plan will be mentored by Dr. David Okai, Clinical Lead in Neuropsychiatry for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
