Biography
Dr. Christine Landry, BPharm, MSc (ACPR), PharmD, BCPS is a pharmacist at Hôpital Montfort and practises primarily in critical care. She is also a clinical investigator at the Institut du Savoir Montfort, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa, member of Francophone Affairs and Director of the new undergraduate Doctor of Pharmacy program (PharmD).
From 2012 to 2023, Dr. Landry also coordinated Hôpital Montfort’s pharmacy residency program for graduate pharmacists, a joint program between The Ottawa Hospital and Hôpital Montfort. She is a member of and evaluator for the Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board (CPRB), responsible for the accreditation of pharmacy residency programs across Canada. Her research includes the development, implementation and evaluation of drug therapy interventions, such as pharmacist assessment of penicillin allergy and the evaluation of the emotional impact of medication errors on Canadian pharmacists.

Research Projects
Dr. Landry’s research program is focused on the optimization of pharmacy practice, training in French, and the quality of pharmaceutical care in Francophone minority communities.
1. Optimization of hospital pharmacy practice
Identification of areas for improvement in pharmacy practice, especially in the hospital setting, to better characterize and document the needs, challenges and progress in the practice. An example of a current research project on this topic carried out in 2021 is the study submitted for publication entitled The Emotional Impact of Medication Related Patient Safety Incidents on Canadian Hospital Pharmacists: A Mixed Methods Study. For future research in this area, incorporating the safety elements identified in this study into the training of future pharmacists would be a second phase of this research component.
2. Pharmacy training in French
In the context of developing a Doctor of Pharmacy program, and the provision of care in the Francophone minority environment, the study of issues related to training in French will have major implications in the short and long term. For future research, the development, implementation and continuous improvement of an innovative program will allow us to stand out in education.
3. Quality of pharmaceutical care, particularly in Francophone minority communities
Studying the availability of pharmaceutical services, as well as investigating factors that limit the integration of active offer, optimizing pharmaceutical services and care, and identifying the needs of patients in minority communities, will make it possible to specify areas for improvement and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in this field. As an example, an initial study describing the level of knowledge of pharmacists on active offer of pharmaceutical care and services in French in Ontario is currently being carried out under the title Qualitative Study describing the Level of Knowledge of Pharmacists on Active Offer of French Language of Pharmaceutical Care and Services in Ontario. For future research in this area, the impact of training for pharmacists on active offer, as well as the other avenues identified in this study, may be pursued.
