Biography
Dr. Balaa completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario, general surgery residency at the University of Ottawa, and hepatobiliary surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has completed a Masters degree in Medical Education through the University of Dundee. Dr. Balaa is an associate professor of surgery at the University of Ottawa where he practices general and hepatobiliary surgery. He has an interest in medical education and medical leadership. He has served as residency program director and as division head for General Surgery at the University of Ottawa. He is a member of the General Surgery examination committee at The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and a physician advisor with The Canadian Medical Protective Association. Dr. Balaa is actively involved in promoting shared care models in surgery.
