Biography
Dr. Rebecca Peterson is a radiologist working at The Ottawa Hospital and has been on staff since 1983. She did her undergraduate work at McGill University, gaining a Bachelor of Science degree from that institution. Following this, she returned to her home province of Saskatchewan where she entered medical school, graduating in 1970. This was followed by a residency in Radiology at the University of Saskatchewan. She moved to Ottawa in 1983.
While she worked in Ottawa, Dr. Peterson served with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, becoming Chairman of the Examination board for Radiology in 1997. She helped develop the OSCE examination in radiology which was the first such exam in Canada and the USA. It has since been widely adopted and presently is in widespread use everywhere.
Dr. Peterson became head of the Department of Radiology for The Ottawa Hospital and Acting Chair at the University of Ottawa in 1998. Through her efforts, the hospital saw the merger of three separate Radiology departments into one large group in 2000. This group still serves the hospital and acts as one unit with over 60 radiologists.
Presently, Dr. Peterson is a staff radiologist at The Ottawa Hospital. She is an associate professor at uOttawa and is heavily involved with the teaching of medical students. She is currently the Director of the Undergraduate Program for Radiology at uOttawa. Using a grant from TOHAMO, she has helped to develop a website devoted to the education of medical students and has also started an extensive teaching file for their continuing education.
