Biography

Susmita Chandramouleeshwaran will be joining the department as a general adult and geriatric psychiatrist. She recently completed a two-year advanced clinical and research fellowship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and the University of Toronto, where she was actively clinically working with older adults in rehabilitation centers, long-term care homes, and outpatient clinical settings. She conducted research on the impact of psychotropic, particularly anticholinergic medications on cognition, and measuring anticholinergic burden. Prior to arrival at CAMH, she was an academic psychiatrist and Assistant Professor at Christian Medical College in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India, where she also graduated from medical school and completed her residency in psychiatry in 2012. She also obtained a post graduate diploma in epidemiology in 2016 from the Indian Institute of Public Health in New Dehli, India. Her position at The Ottawa Hospital will be 0.6 FTE clinical, a mix of work in general adult psychiatry outpatient clinic and working in geriatric psychiatry as part of our Behavioural Supports Ontario team. She will start at 0.4 FTE for research and career development. She will continue her research on anticholinergic measurement and toxicity under the continued mentorship of Dr. Tarek Rajii, Chief of the Adult Neurodevelopment and Geriatric Psychiatry Division at CAMH. She will also be actively involved in education and write the Royal College examination for geriatric psychiatry.
