Biography

Dr. Chen is a Professor in the School of Epidemiology, Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Chen received his medical degree and doctorate in epidemiology from the Shanghai Medical University. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Saskatchewan. He worked at the University of Saskatchewan for six years as an Assistant /Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine (Centre for Agricultural Medicine) and Community Health & Epidemiology. He received a National Health Research Scholar Award from National Health Research and Development Program (NHRDP), Health Canada (1994-97, 1998-2000), and a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Investigator Award (2000-2005). Dr. Chen's interests are in the areas of chronic disease epidemiology (cardio-respiratory disease, cancer, diabetes). He is mostly interested in the environmental, genetic and social determinants of chronic lung diseases including asthma and COPD and of lung dysfunction. He is also interested in various aspects of infectious disease epidemiology.
