uOBMRI Seminar Series
May 27, 2025 — 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The uOBMRI Seminar Series, co-hosted by the Centre for Neuromuscular Disease, will feature a keynote by Dr. Rita Horvath, MD, PhD from University of Cambridge, on “Modelling mitochondrial disease to develop treatments.”

“Modelling mitochondrial disease to develop treatments”
Rita Horvath, MD, PhD, Clinician Scientist, Rare Neurogenetic Disorders, Professor, Neurogenetics, Department of Clinical, Neurosciences, University of Cambridge, Honorary Consultant Neurologist, Addenbrooke Hospital
Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the clinical variability and heterogeneous genetic causes of mitochondrial diseases.
- Define principal mechanisms underpinning cell-type-specific mitochondrial vulnerability in different organs and cell types in cellular and zebrafish models.
- Highlight some relevant molecular pathways which we target to develop treatments for mitochondrial disease.
