The goal of this program is to stimulate translational research efforts at an early developmental stage. The EBF aims to support activities broadly defined as advancing the translational potential of technologies developed in the course of research such as: (1) Increasing its technology readiness level in anticipation of spinning out a company to commercialize it; (2) Perform experiments essential to protect IP that is intended to be licensed and commercialized.
The proposed technology must show promise and be sufficiently advanced that, it can be reasonably expected that the technology will be sufficiently mature within three years to:
- Be licensed to a company that has clear path to market and can be an industry partner for other funding opportunities, or;
- Form the core IP associated with a researcher/student-led spinout company.
The Faculty of Science EBF should not be considered the main source of funding to do a market analysis or develop a business plan. We encourage applicants, and their graduate students, interested in developing this aspect of research commercialization to apply for the Graduate Entrepreneurship Experience Programme (GEEP).
Applicants are encouraged to contact the Vice-Dean, Innovation & Strategic Partnerships, at anytime to discuss their interest in the program.
