About the event

The ICSN Gathering aims to be a pivotal step in the direction of team-based solutions in the initiative to Indigenze higher education in Canada. Members of the ICSN are committed to integrating Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Doing, and Being into administrative, teaching, and research frameworks and practises because they understand that indigenous development is fundamentally a collaborative process. The Gathering will centre Indigenous Knowledges and Protocols while fostering a forum for the exchange of best practices. It is a chance for everyone involved to advance in a positive way, promoting cooperation and understanding.

The ICSN participants will be welcomed into the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation on the first day of the programme, where they will learn from the land and each other following the First Nation practises. They will meet at the University of Ottawa on the second day to collaborate on resource development. The public is invited to a hybrid event on the third day. It will consist of:

  • Elder Opening Ceremony: A traditional blessing will be given to start the ceremony.
  • Panel Discussion by ICSN Members on Decolonizing, Indigenizing, and Reconciliation: sharing of wise practises for advancing decolonization strategies, acknowledging various types of knowledge, and respectfully incorporating Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Doing, and Being into educational settings, research endeavours, and organisational procedures.
  • Interactive Q&A Session: Engaging conversations with ICSN participants.
  • Feast: to celebrate the customs and cultures of Indigenous people.
  • Elder Closing Ceremony: to end the day following Indigenous traditions.

The ICSN Gathering welcomes participants from all backgrounds, including higher education administrators, faculty, support staff, and students who would like to deepen their knowledge of the practices to advance the Indigenization of higher education.
