Library support for online learning

The library is the intellectual hub of the campus. It is used every day by thousands of students, faculty and researchers.

Specialized research assistance

We provide research consultations for students and faculty using Microsoft Teams, email, and other platforms. Contact your Research Librarian to book an appointment.

Research is difficult and finding the right information can be frustrating. Librarians and specialists maintain research guides for each discipline that provide subject-specific search strategies, curated links to databases, and other resources.

E-Book collections

We offer a large collection of digital titles which you can access by searching Omni, the Library's discovery tool. Can’t find a specific title in our collection? Suggest a purchase or contact your Research Librarian to request it.

Many publishers and suppliers have made their publications accessible freely during the pandemic. It is unlikely, however, that these resources will still be available this Fall. If you are planning to use materials, be sure to:

  1. Verify the title(s) in Omni. We may already have access to the material.
  2. If the title does not appear in our collections, send a purchase request or contact your Research Librarian to request

Course reserve service

Our course reserve service allows instructors to set aside course materials for the short-term use of students. We are currently offering a digital course reserve service (PDFs, e-books, streaming videos, etc.). We can also help find online alternatives to physical collections.

For more information, please contact [email protected].

In-class support

We offer a range of instruction sessions tailored to your course and learning objectives. These sessions may be presented live or recorded in advance for asynchronous delivery.

Topics vary by discipline and may include:

  • Developing a search strategy
  • Systematic reviews versus literature reviews
  • Using citation management software
  • Key resources for your area of study

Contact your Research Librarian early to discuss your needs.

Open Educational Resources (OER)

An OER is a freely and openly available learning object that can be retained, reused, revised, remixed and redistributed, often under the terms of a Creative Commons licence. Consider using OER in your courses for easy and free access.

Visit the Library’s OER Guide for suggested sources and search tips.
