Leadership

Lead: Dr. Krystina Lewis, assistant professor, nursing

This committee will develop a KT/KMb framework and plan to set direction on matters of KMb across all activities, including training and mentoring and advancing the science of IKT and implementation science.  

Lead: Dr. Dawn Richards, Five02Labs inc.

This committee will include patients, families and advocates with lived experience of brain and heart conditions, SPOR (Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research) leaders, ECRs and trainees, and citizen collaborators. 

Lead: member of Indigenous community, co-lead Dr. Malcolm King 

This committee will consist of Indigenous people with lived and living experience of brain-heart health issues, Indigenous elders and knowledge holders, Indigenous health researchers and non-Indigenous health researchers with a proven track record of working well with Indigenous people and communities. The IGC will advise on priorities that reflect Indigenous community needs and on Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing that will benefit Indigenous people. It will also actively engage in all aspects of research of interest to members, to provide unique expertise and perspective.  

Lead: Dr. Emilio Alarcon, associate professor, biochemistry

This committee will lead the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of the IDEAS Action Plan and provide input on evidence-based best practices and needs across BHI activities, including recruitment, training and retention.  

Lead: Dr. Nadine Wiper-Bergeron, assistant dean, graduate and postdoctoral studies 

This committee will include ECRs and trainee representatives from uOttawa and University partners. The committee will address training and mentoring across programs and build innovative training initiatives and infrastructure support for learning.  

Lead: Dr. Daniel Figeys, interim director, innovation and partnerships  

This committee will be composed of core team members with expertise in translational research and commercialization from uOttawa and University partners, business experts and industry partners, as well as end users such as patient partners. The committee will support, advise and mentor BHI teams on commercialization opportunities, assess market potential and link up with business, venture capital and entrepreneurial talents to move innovations along the value chain.  

Lead: Dr. Kelly Cobey, associate professor, epidemiology and public health 

This committee will provide overall governance and guidance in the development of the BHCP. The BHCP will be “open science ready” and follow current data sharing standards, including the FAIR (findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability) Data Principles and the CARE (collective benefit, authority to control, responsibility, ethics) Principles for Indigenous Data Governance.
