drawing of people holding different religious symbols

Details

This symposium aims to make a contribution to current debates on public policy in the face of socio-religious diversity, in both minority and majority francophone municipal areas. Presentations will offer a multifactorial analysis of the following specific issues, based on case studies or theoretical perspectives: a) the transformation of the religious landscape and changes in the neutrality or secularity of the state, apprehended at the local urban level; b) the way in which citizens, religious groups and people without religion appropriate and represent urban space and the visibility of religion; c) the governance of religious diversity in the daily practices of municipalities; and d) the ways in which religious groups participate in urban life.

Scheduled Panels (in French only):

  • Immigration, francophonie et municipalités
  • Défis concernant le zonage religieux
  • Patrimoine et vitalité religieuse
