Endowed by a $5 million gift from distinguished alumnus Alex Trebek, The Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue enriches and broadens public debate in Canada.

The Forum for Dialogue hosts conferences, workshops and other public events related to research projects on major public policy challenges and invites heads of government to deliver lectures and speeches.

A forum to enrich and broaden public debate in Canada, the Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue has most recently supported 12 uOttawa Centres and Institutes to examine public policy and drive change on issues of critical significance to all global citizens, including how to build inclusive and durable democracies, protect privacy and the rights of citizens as the role of AI and big data expands in medicine and food production, and protect water resources in the era of rapid climate change.

This transformational work is unfolding along three interdisciplinary research projects, each conducted over a three-year period. The projects are united under the Smart Changes for a Better World banner.

Centres and institutes

The Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue has provided 12 uOttawa Centres and Institutes with the opportunity to examine public policy, help update or create new laws and regulations and to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of citizens, through three research projects whose work is conducted over a three-year period. The projects are united under the Smart Changes for a Better World banner. The interdisciplinary nature of these projects will play a major role in finding solutions to the critical issues related to Smart Changes for a Better World.  Taken together, they will strengthen the University of Ottawa’s position as a driving force in Canadian and international public policy.
