On February 1, 2021, the HRREC Human Rights Clinic, in association with Peruvian NGOs IDL (Instituto de Defensa Legal, a human Rights organization) and ORPIO (Organizacíon Regional de los Pueblos Indígenas del Oriente), filed a request of precautionary measures before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, seeking to protect Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation in Peru.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected Indigenous Peoples. The request is asking the Peruvian government to adopt intercultural health protocols and to create natural reserves to protect the territory of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation. The request has been endorsed by 11 Indigenous communities of the Peruvian Amazon.
