Anna Mikhailov is a fine arts and law student, and an emerging human rights researcher based in Ottawa, Canada. Her work explores the intersection between visual art and human rights, with a particular focus on youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and equity in arts education.
Anna is the founder of a self-directed art research initiative aimed at increasing public access to professional art instruction and creative resources through online platforms. Her project supports community engagement and artistic development by offering free visual arts tutorials and participatory tools that prioritize accessibility and inclusivity.
Anna’s artistic work has been exhibited in several notable Canadian cultural institutions, where it has contributed to public discourse on national identity, and cultural awareness in relation to human rights. Such as her artwork that was selected for long-term exhibition at the Canadian War Museum, where it offered a youth-driven visual response to Canada’s histories of conflict, sacrifice, remembrance, and civic duty.
Anna also works with the City of Ottawa’s youth after-school and arts programs at Hintonburg Community Centre, where she uses visual art as a platform for hands-on creative engagement. Her practice encourages self-expression in youth while implicitly introducing cultural and human rights concepts through the structure and content of artistic exploration. In parallel, she collects qualitative data from youth participants that contributes to her broader human rights inquiries for community arts practice.
