What is the future of open data?
Pamela Robinson, Teresa Scassa and their contributors team up to answer this question in The Future of Open Data, with each addressing different issues grounded in a distinct disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspective.
After tracing the origins of open data in Canada, the authors evaluate the pitfalls and opportunities of open data in public, private, and civil society sectors. They explore urban and rural open data as well as open data use in the Global South. Together, they examine how the changing contexts for open data sharing and use may impact the sources of open data, its limits, and even cause liability issues.
Collectively, the authors’ insights into the future of open data combine their observations about the Canadian open data community with a critical perspective on what could and should happen as open data efforts evolve.
In addition to a contribution from Dr. Teresa Scassa, the collection includes contributions from several members of the Centre: Faculty member Elizabeth Judge, Associate memberTracey Lauriault, PhD candidate Tenille Brown and now-alumni Dr. Haewon Chung.
