HRREC Director Addresses 14th Session of United Nations Forum on Minority Issues
On 2 December 2021, Professor John Packer addressed (remotely) the annual meeting of the UN Human Rights Council’s Forum on Minority Issues.

At the invitation of the UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, Dr Fernand de Varennes, Prof Packer delivered introductory remarks under agenda item 2 on the “Root Causes of Contemporary Conflicts Involving Minorities”. The open-ended meeting of the Forum is held annually in Geneva for two days (plus advance meetings) and this year attracted some 650 registrations from groups around the world (in addition to representatives of UN Member States and IGOs). For background on the Forum on Minority Issues, its mandate, background, the Fourteenth and previous sessions as well as related information, see the UN webpage.
