Between May 5 and 30, the Human Rights Office invites University members to take part in a short and anonymous online questionnaire of 8 questions on updates to Policy 67a — Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination as well as to the related Procedure 36-1 — Complaints of Harassment/Discrimination initiated by students and Procedure 36-2 — Complaints of Harassment/Discrimination initiated by employees.
Update highlights
The University is updating Policy 67a — Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
The update is meant to improve management of harassment and discrimination prevention and processing of related complaints at the University. It will also include new requirements in the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Act dealing with hate and racism toward Indigenous individuals, anti-Black racism, antisemitism and Islamophobia.
The update will include, for example, the following elements:
- A definition of “hate”
- Information on making anonymous complaints
- Information on complaint processing times
- An appeal procedure
- General freedom of speech principles
- A simplified complaint handling process in order to expedite the processing of complaints
