Statement on the Earthquake in Morocco on September 8, 2023

The University of Ottawa wishes to express our support and heartfelt condolences to students, faculty and staff of Moroccan descent within our community, the Moroccan people and the families of the victims.

On Friday night, a powerful earthquake struck central Morocco, with its epicenter in the High Atlas Mountains southwest of Marrakesh. The earthquake killed over 1,300 people with more than 1,800 injured, as well as damaging or destroying hundreds of structures.
