Identity and Access Management (IAM) is a formidable system; however, it is unknown to most users. It refers to the processes, policies and technologies that securely and efficiently create, manage and authenticate a user's digital identity to gain access to a multitude of resources

In brief, IAM facilitates the production of every uOttawa account at the University, be it the student body, support staff, faculty, or external partners.

The primary purpose of IAM is to establish automated workflows for students, professors, researchers, support staff, etc. This involves removing many manual tasks to allow for a more automated workflow. Unlike other systems, IAM is a sustainable cloud-based approach that allows room for growth. We are the first educational institution in Canada to adopt Saviynt as an identity solution. Over 750 thousand digital identities are managed thanks to this solution.

In 2016, the University began to use an identity system to improve security. It can handle thousands of daily interactions with the uOttawa source systems for the University community. This system ensures all users have complete access to the various systems needed to perform desired tasks. Without this system, the University would have difficulty operating the necessary tasks required for the safe functioning of accounts.

Most recently, IAM was revamped to meet Workday's objectives. With IAM, we can confidently define and modify user roles, track and report on their activities, and enforce regulatory compliance policies to protect and ensure data security and privacy.

IAM is a truly scalable solution that meets the requirements of modern organizations.
