The Language Assessment Literacy Research Project (2011-2015)

Principal Investigator: Beverly A. Baker

This research project investigated the use of standardised language test scores in the making of admissions decisions. While detailed knowledge of these tests is the domain of language assessment specialists, admissions decision-makers need a certain amount of language assessment literacy (Taylor, 2009) to enable them to make use of language test scores effectively and ethically. This project therefore involved the collaboration of assessment professionals and admissions decision makers across Canada in the joint creation of an online workshop on the use of these assessments in admissions decision-making. This work has implications for equity in access to higher education in Canada.
