A Greener Shift in Campus Dining

As part of uOttawa's commitment to a more sustainable future, we're excited to share our latest initiative. Starting this September, we're phasing out single-use plastic cutlery to pave the way for a greener, waste-free dining experience on campus.

In accordance with the federal ban on single-use plastics, we're doing our part to drastically reduce the consumption of disposable utensils.

But our ambitions stretch beyond just complying. We envision a campus where single-use cutlery is a thing of the past. So, as we deplete our current stocks of plastic cutlery, we’re transitioning to a compostable wooden alternative.

These wooden alternatives will be available upon request behind the counter. Let's work together to minimize their use by opting for reusable alternatives.

Important Note: Starting January 2024, there will be a surcharge of 25 cents on the wooden cutlery. To avoid surcharges adding up and to maximize your sustainability contribution, opt for our stainless-steel sets. Let’s make the switch now and get ready for a single-use cutlery free campus.
