Life-Cycle Design and Analysis prize category
Life-cycle design incorporates all materials and components involved in the creation, use and disposal or recycling of a product. The goal is to create cradle-to-cradle products that minimize environmental and social damage in their construction and use, and can be reused or integrated into reusable or biologically available components at the end of their product life. Products will be judged on the various phases of their life cycle analysis, including:
Goal and scope: What percentage of the product life cycle has been considered? Are resulting changes in the design or design requirements clear?
Inventory analysis: How are material and energy flows analyzed? To what extent are interactions with the environment, raw material consumption and environmental emissions considered?
Impact assessment: How is inventory analysis used to determine the overall impact?
Critical review: Are design limitations and assumptions identified and explained in a detailed critical review?
Competition
All students, undergraduate and graduate, in the Faculty of Engineering are invited to participate and showcase their design projects. These design projects can be physical prototypes, design plans, apps or websites. Design projects can come out of a class, research or a personal project from either an individual student or a team.
Prizes will be awarded per category.
