Biography

William Gardner is a child psychologist and mental health services researcher. He studies child and population mental health, self-harming behaviour and substance misuse, statistical methods, psychiatric measurement, and health system change. Dr. Gardner is a senior research scientist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO, Ottawa, ON), a professor of epidemiology at the University of Ottawa, and the CHEO RI and University of Ottawa Chair in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. His current research is supported by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the ScotiaBank Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and the US Centers for Disease Control. His research has been published in Science, the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, JAMA Pediatrics, JAMA Psychiatry, CMAJ, the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Health Services Research, the American Psychologist, the Psychological Bulletin, Developmental Psychology, and Psychometrika.
