The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology.

The teaching and pedagogical innovation in medical biochemistry and translational medicine position will focus on the following areas: immunology, bacteriology, virology, medical biochemistry, and the development and implementation of laboratory courses in the field of biomedical sciences.

The Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology comprises over 100 faculty members, features a vibrant research atmosphere addressing fundamental questions in basic biomedical research with strong links to translational and clinical research. The successful candidate will also be expected to establish and maintain a vigorous program of independent, externally funded research and to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.

Title of the position: Assistant or Associate Professor. The higher rank of Associate Professor will only be considered should the successful candidate possess an appropriate level of experience and commensurate achievements.

Number of positions available: One (1)

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions:

  1. Teaching activities
  2. Scholarly activities evidenced by research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work and
  3. Academic service activities.

Terms: Tenure-track position.

Wage: Assistant Professor salary scale commensurate according to APUO salary scale. Note: salary for higher ranks is proportional according to level and experience.

Benefits package: The University of Ottawa provides a complete compensation package, including long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, University of Ottawa Pension Plan and optional life insurance.

Relocation expenses: The successful candidate may be eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses by university policy.

Skill requirements:

  • Education: Ph.D. or MD/PhD
  • Work experience: Strong track record of teaching experience encompassing the following topics: Immunology, Bacteriology, Virology, and innovative laboratory design. Teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, and presentations at significant conferences demonstrate excellent teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and research.

The application package must include the teaching dossier submitted, a strong teaching statement (1 page), sample syllabi, course materials, teaching evaluations, and two support letters of reference from referees of high standing. The application must also include a description of current and future research plans (2 pages)
