Replacement Professor - Medicinal Chemistry or Physicochemistry/Galenics

The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, in support of the new Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

It invites applications for a temporary faculty replacement position with expertise in two or more of the following areas: 

  1. Undergraduate courses in medicinal chemistry, physicochemistry, drug formulation or galenics related to drug development; 

  2. selected topics in medicinal chemistry, physicochemistry, drug formulation, galenics or biopharmaceutical technology that may be relevant to the understanding of drug therapy; 

  3. Experience in medical or biopharmaceutical education both in an interactive teaching format with active learning

The Faculty of Medicine, and its research-intensive School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has over 100 faculty members and is a young and dynamic environment dedicated to basic and translational research in the biomedical sciences. The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is developing an innovative undergraduate Doctor of Pharmacy program to train pharmacists to meet the needs of Francophone communities in minority settings. 

  • Title of the position: Replacement Professor.
  • Number of positions available: 1

Responsibilities: The duties of the replacement professor include, in varying proportions: 

  1. teaching activities on and off campus; 
  2. activities related to course preparation;
  3. school service activities.

Start date : January 1st, 2023
Terms : 3 years 
Wage:   Assistant Professor salary scale commensurate according to APUO salary scale. Note: salary for higher ranks is commensurate according to rank and experience.

Skills requirements:

  • Education: PhD or PharmD/PhD in chemistry, physicochemistry, galenics or a related discipline.  A postgraduate degree in education would be an asset.

  • Work experience: A demonstrated track record of teaching, course development, and course management is preferred. A commitment to teaching, a strong track record in and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, excellent communication skills in either English or French.  English-French bilingualism and experience in educational research are assets.

  • Language: The candidates are required to have active knowledge of French (oral, written and spoken) and active knowledge of English (oral, written and spoken). Bilingualism (English-French) is essential for undergraduate pharmacy education offered in French.
