Context: This motion is based on Recommendation 5 from the Report on a Critical Examination of the Ranking Grid for Experimental and Clinical Program Admissions in the School of Psychology.

Motion:

The School of Psychology, and the Clinical and Experimental Psychology Graduate Programs encourage and welcome applications from all students with psychology backgrounds. Along with our commitment to French/English bilingualism at the University of Ottawa and uOttawa’s aspiration of being a vibrant Franco-Ontarian and Franco-Canadian community, we are committed to including underrepresented groups in our School, particularly people who are Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour (BIPOC), and other racialized people, as well as people with disabilities, gender diverse people, and sexual minority people to work towards correcting a biased system. We aspire to overrepresent BIPOC students and represent students with disabilities, those who identify as a sexual minority or gender diverse (i.e., transgender, non-binary, gender queer, etc). The purpose of this policy is to particularly encourage training Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour who can meet the scientific, professional, and mental health needs of BIPOC communities, given that resources and training opportunities may be scarce.

Notes:

BIPOC includes Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, South Asian, Chinese, Filipino, Latin American, Arab, Southeast Asian, West Asian, Korean and Japanese and other racialized people (as per visible minority definition, Statistics Canada, 2017).
