Undergraduate students can apply for a conference travel grant or for a group project/activity.

Application procedure

  • See the two categories of applications below.
  • Complete all sections of the form associated with the category of your project or activity at least 30 days prior to the event/project date.
  • Attach any other documents that may help in understanding your project to the last section of the form.
  • The Faculty studies the application and decides on the allocation of financial support. A one-week delay is necessary for the evaluation of the application.
  • The applicant will receive an e-mail from the Faculty informing them of the decision and indicating the steps to be taken to obtain the contribution.

Category 1 – Individual application

For an undergraduate student’s participation in a conference or activity that:

  • Aims to enhance a student’s leadership potential;
  • Complements the student’s learning in a particular field;
  • Promotes the Faculty of Social Sciences or the University of Ottawa in the broader community.

Eligibility

Students applying for a conference travel grant must be registered full-time in an undergraduate program of study at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the time of the conference or activity.

Conditions

A student can only be awarded one grant through the completion of their program;

Maximum eligible amount: $500 per project

Category 2 – Student association, social club, or group application

Eligibility and conditions

  1. The applicant(s) must be enrolled in a program of study in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
  2. A sponsorship application may be submitted at any time during the year. The application must be submitted a minimum of 30 days prior to the date of the activity. Applications made after the activity will be refused except in special circumstances.
  3. Projects or activities must be carried out between August 1st and July 31st of the current year.
  4. The applicant(s) must submit a brief report on the project to the committee (number of participants, evaluation and financial statement) within 30 days following the project or activity. Failure to do so will automatically result in the rejection of subsequent grant applications from that group or individual.
  5. A group that has received more than $800 from the Faculty of Social Sciences is invited to integrate the logo into its communications.
  6. An applicant must submit a new application each year.
  7. Sponsorship applications are limited to the funds available and the Faculty reserves the right to reject applications based on budgetary realities.
  • Welcome and integration activity;
  • Conference, convention, symposium, seminar;
  • Cultural production (play, film, show, etc.);
  • Media production (newspaper, magazine, etc.);
  • Project resulting from a school extension (delegations, etc.).
  • Sponsorship for a cause (an event or project to raise funds for a cause);
  • International exchange;
  • Credited or non-credited internship project;
  • Fundraising event;
  • Graduation activities (ball, party, etc.).
  • The Faculty of Social Sciences will not accept sponsorship applications for projects or activities that discriminate on the basis of characteristics specified in the law or that promote a particular ideology (political party, religious beliefs or organizations).

Option A – Small projects

To encourage the realization of projects specifically aimed at students in the same program of study (conferences, exhibitions, debates, etc.)

Maximum eligible amount: $500 per project

Option B – Major projects, academic enhancement or inter-faculty or inter-university activities (delegation or host)

Large projects must:

  • Stimulate student life
  • Involve the Faculty of Social Sciences community as much as possible
  • Allow as much collaboration with other student associations as possible
  • Send delegations to conferences, games or inter-university competitions that are either for course credit or not for course credit. Organizers will need to demonstrate that the programming is primarily academic in nature.
  • Organization of conferences, games or competitions that may or may not be for course credit. Organizers will be required to demonstrate that the programming is primarily in academic in nature.

Ex: Thematic week, series of conferences, symposium, shows, exhibition, games, specific conferences, etc.

Maximum eligible amount: $1000 per project
