Software and equipment

Along with the physical collection of topographic maps, atlases, and aerial photographs, Room 309 in the Morisset Building (MRT) provides three computer workstations containing specialized software.  In addition, Room MRT 308 has 21 workstations set up for users.  For details on the available software (geographical, statistical, and standard), please consult the list below.

Special equipment

  • Light table
    Translucent working surface (table-top) illuminated from below and used typically for making tracings or examining color transparencies.
  • Stereoscope
    A device for viewing an overlapping pair of photographs in order to see a three-dimensional image.

Scanning

  • Map-sized drum scanner (KIP 3100)
    Convenient for scanning maps and larger sized documents. All scanning is done by staff on-site in room MRT 309 and is free for members of the University of Ottawa community.

Note that Canadian geology and topographic maps are already available online.
