Biography

Dr. Marty received his master’s degree and Ph.D. in limnology from the University du Québec in Montréal, where he studied zooplankton and carbon cycling. From 2006 to 2012, he was a research scientist at the River Institute, where he worked on invasive species of the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes. In 2019, he was appointed to the Science Advisory Board of the International Joint Commission. Dr. Marty recently helped with the creation of the Society of Canadian Aquatic Sciences and volunteers with several organizations working on water in Canada and abroad. He also was chair of the Partnership Group for Science and Engineering. When not working, he can be found canoeing, biking, and playing his favorite instrument, the accordion.
