Enterprise Architecture (EA) plays a critical role in guiding uOttawa digital transformation. Through structured governance and strategic oversight, EA ensures that technology initiatives are aligned with the university’s mission, values, and long-term vision.

Mission

Providing strategic oversight and architectural guidance for all major IT initiatives at the University of Ottawa. Through the Architecture Review Board (ARB), we ensure that projects are aligned with institutional goals, comply with university-wide standards, and support a secure, integrated, and user-centric digital environment.

The ARB evaluates initiatives based on:

  • Strategic alignment with uOttawa’s digital transformation goals
  • Compliance with policies, standards, and best practices
  • Architectural integrity across business capabilities, information structures, and technical infrastructure
  • Security, privacy, and risk management
  • User experience and accessibility
  • Scalability and sustainability of proposed solutions

Vision

To shape a resilient and future-ready digital ecosystem that supports innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence at uOttawa. The ARB serves as a central forum for architectural governance, fostering transparency, consistency, and shared understanding across faculties and services.

We envision:

  • A well-defined enterprise architecture framework that evolves with institutional needs
  • A collaborative governance model that brings together stakeholders from across the university
  • A mature architecture practice that supports the University of Tomorrow through informed decision-making and proactive planning
  • A streamlined project lifecycle, integrated with the Project and Portfolio Management Office (PPMO), ensuring that all major initiatives are reviewed and guided from inception to implementation
