Sean Duffy health and safety leader February 2024
The Office of the Chief Risk Officer is delighted to announce that Sean Duffy, manager, facilities planning and logistics, has been named Health and Safety Leader of the Month for February at uOttawa.

Recently, Sean called in a report to Protection Services about some individuals who appeared to be in the process of removing the barricades blocking the stairs from the UCU terrace to Morisset Hall, which would have created a safety hazard. Protection Services attended the location and spoke with the individuals present, informing them of the importance of safety devices such as barricades and the risks associated with disturbing them.

Hazard identification and reporting are fundamental to a successful safety program. Caring for others in our community and taking steps to ensure they’re safe, as demonstrated by Sean, are the characteristics of a strong safety culture and an effective safety reporting procedure. We owe it to each other to ensure that if we SEE SOMETHING unsafe, we SAY SOMETHING to address the issue.

Well done, Sean.

We encourage all members of the University community to continue demonstrating a commitment to health and safety in their own roles. We look forward to honouring future recipients. To nominate a safety leader, please email the Office of the Chief Risk Officer.

Together, let’s work towards a culture of safety and ensure that the University of Ottawa remains a leading institution in prioritizing the well-being of its students, staff and professors.
