Admissions
When will applications be available?
No later than January 15, 2022. They will be available on our website.
When is the application deadline?
March 15, 2022
How do I apply?
Applications are in 4 parts:
- application fee
- application form, which includes;
- resume
- audition video links
- scholarship letter (if you want to be considered)
- vaccination proof
What are the fees?
Application fee: $70 CAD
Tuition: $800 CAD
Accommodation (optional, 13-night stay): $800 CAD
How do I pay my fees?
All fees go through the uOttawa General Store. The Application Fee is accessible via direct link on our website. If accepted you will be sent payment links for tuition and accommodation (if applicable) directly.
Payment can be made via Visa or MasterCard.
Do you have scholarships available?
Yes! If you want to be considered, write a financial aid request letter and include it in your application.
Do you accept late applications?
Prospective students are encouraged to apply by the deadline. However, you are welcome to email our administrator at [email protected] to see if your application will be accepted.
How do I know if my application has been received?
You will receive an automatic notice from the application form, and you will hear from an administrator if your application is incomplete.
When will I know if I have been accepted?
All students will be notified of their status by April 1, 2022.
If I am accepted, what is the due date for the enrollment form and tuition fees (and accommodation fees if applicable)?
April 30th, 2022
What is your refund policy?
Application fee: no refund
Tuition and Accomodation: 95% refund within 10 days of payment. 50% reimbursement May 28th, 2022 or earlier. No reimbursement issued May 29th, 2022 or later. No refund will be issued to anyone who does not meet the COVID-19 vaccination requirement.
Do you have COVID-19 protocols?
The 2022 program is being planned to be held in-person on The University of Ottawa campus. The University of Ottawa has a mandatory vaccine policy. All students are required to be fully vaccinated and fill in a COVID-19 declaration form before every visit at the University. Prospective students are required to provide vaccine proof as part of their application. As always, we remain flexible to the ongoing pandemic guidelines and we will update our information should anything change.
Our program
Are practice rooms available?
Each student will have access to the practice room floor in Perez Hall for the duration of the Academy.
What is the collaborative piano program?
It is for high level pianists who will be placed in a chamber group, and matched with a string player for a sonata duo. Students will receive chamber coachings and rehearsals, as well as lessons with our collaborative piano faculty with their duo partner for the sonata. Collaborative piano students will be able to participate in our masterclass and performance opportunities.
What should I wear for concerts?
Please be prepared with a few formal outfits that you also feel confident in as there will be multiple performance opportunities.
What is the daily schedule?
Students should be prepared to be at the University from 9-5PM on weekdays. The first day orientation might occur earlier than 9AM. There may be some performance activities scheduled in the evenings. There are no scheduled activities for the weekend. Please do not schedule appointments during the festival. Students are encouraged to take time off work if possible. Students are expected to be present for all scheduled activities.
What is the Guest Masterclass Series?
A series of public masterclasses taught during the program by an esteemed guest faculty member.
Facility
Are uOttawa Summer String Academy organized accommodations mandatory?
NO. Students are welcome to find solutions to their accommodations needs for the duration of the Academy.
What is the age limit for 90U Residence Hall?
Any student 18 or older can stay unchaperoned. Any student under 18 is required to have a parent/guardian stay with them at an additional cost.
What is included in the accommodation $800 CAD fee?
This includes at 13-night stay in the 90U Residence Hall on the campus of the University of Ottawa. Students are responsible for their own meals. Located 2 minutes walk from Perez Hall (Music School) in the 90 University Residence Hall(90U), accommodations include 2-bedroom suites, each with a kitchenette and a washroom. The kitchenette includes a microwave, fridge, kitchen table and two chairs. Private bedrooms include a desk, chair, dresser, and double bed. The unit includes bedding, towels, and toiletries. The building includes a laundry room, large communal kitchen, wi-fi and air-conditioning. Students will be responsible for bringing any utensils or dishware.
When would I check-in?
Students will check-in as early as 4PM on Sunday, August 7th, and check-out as late as 10:30AM August 20th, 2022.
Are there any other accommodation options for students under 18?
We have a limited number of billets available for the same cost as the 90U Residence Hall ($800 CAD), including meals. Billets would be with another student’s family, or a member in the Ottawa community. Indicating interest on the application form does not guarantee billet accommodation.
How do I get to Ottawa and the University (Perez Hall)?
You can get to Ottawa via air, train, or ground transportation. The University is easily reached by public transit, Uber, Lyft, or taxi.
