Biography

Michelle Lalonde is an associate professor in the School of Nursing of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. In addition, she is the leader of the research component of “Francophonie et Santé” at the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Health and Nursing Research (CHIRSC). Michelle Lalonde has a PhD in Nursing from the University of Toronto. Professor Lalonde’s program of research focuses on “Transition and Readiness to Nursing Practice”. This program of research has three main objectives: 1) to explore the transition of nurses during key transition points, student-to-nurse, role changes, and changes in scope of practice, 2) to evaluate the integration of simulation throughout the learning continuum, and 3) to evaluate the relationship between nurses’ work and work environments on nurse, patient and health system outcomes. The theme related to Francophonie is integrated throughout Professor Lalonde’s program of research. As a registered nurse, Michelle’s areas of clinical expertise are emergency/trauma and general surgery. Professor Lalonde is a member of the National Emergency Nurses’ Association and an editor for the Canadian Journal of Emergency Nursing.
