The University requires all researchers to submit an RE form when applying for grants. Sign in to eAwards to access, complete and sign the RE form. The RE form also needs to be signed by the Vice-Dean Research: please communicate with Natalie Carter at [email protected] to complete the procedure or if you have any questions regarding eAwards.
If you need to create your account, please follow the required steps as explained on the eAwards webpage. The Research Office can facilitate the process when necessary.
eReviews: An online submission system for research ethics review
eReviews is the online platform managed by the Office of Research Ethics and Integrity that allows researchers to submit applications for an ethics certificate. Please note that it is possible for the University to release some of the grant funds for research activities that do not require the ethics certificate. You can communicate with our Faculty Research Advisor, Anna Bogic, to discuss further.
eReviews is a Web-based platform that allows researchers to submit ethics review requests to the Research Ethics Boards (REBs) and to store all of their projects’ ethics information in one convenient location.
Research Data Management
Research Data Management refers to active organization and maintenance of data throughout the research process and data preservation once the research project is complete. Please note that many funding competitions require researchers to present their research data management plans. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the RDM Hub page that includes centralized tools for organizing, storing and sharing your research data. You can also discuss your RDM plans with your Faculty Research Advisor, Anna Bogic.
Research Security
Research Security is the ability to identify possible risks to your work through unwanted access, interference, or theft and to minimize these risks by protecting the inputs, processes and products of your scientific research and discovery. All Tri-Agency grant applications require researchers to be familiar with the Canadian government’s research security policies: STRAC Policy and NSGRP Policy. Speak to your Faculty Research Advisor, Anna Bogic, about the required forms and processes. Please also note that the University of Ottawa has a dedicated research security team whose mandate is to assist researchers with best practices in secure conduct of research and risk assessment processes.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
The Faculty of Law offers a guide, “EDI in Research,” which has information on EDI frameworks, models, tools and resources. Before submitting their grant applications, researchers are welcome to consult the guide and discuss EDI in research with the Faculty Research Advisor, Anna Bogic.
uO Research
uOttawa manages its own digital repository for research and teaching materials created by the uOttawa community (faculty, researchers, and students) and our partners. This digital repository provides open access to research such as theses, dissertations, and publications housed by uOttawa.
Open Access
uOttawa supports open access initiatives for the purpose of fostering more equitable and quicker dissemination and sharing of knowledge. Learn more about uOttawa open access policies and financial support. Please note that uOttawa Library offers support through discounts with publishers and provision of assistance with different types of infrastructure for open access publishing.
Research Management Services
Research Management Services (RMS) office, in coordination with the Faculty Research Office, provides support to uOttawa researchers with administrative steps in the grant application process, such as application submissions to Canadian funding agencies and institutional signatures. RMS also manages post-award processes and assists researchers with setting up contracts and agreements with Canadian funding agencies and institutions. Click here to learn more about the different types of agreements.
IREX
The International Research and Experiential Learning (IREX) office serves the uOttawa community by supporting international research grants and contracts of uOttawa’s full-time Faculty members through the provision of supporting documentation and the review, negotiation, and approval of agreements with funding agencies. IREX is also the point of contact for all international funding opportunities such as Horizon Europe and Fullbright Program, as well as the Visiting Researcher Program and the Doctoral Mobility Program.
Innovation Support Services
The Innovation Support Services (ISS) is the point of contact for any contracts and agreements that uOttawa researchers wish to make with private industry partners. The ISS team works with researchers on commercialization, patenting and licensing, and assists researchers with collaborative research agreements and intellectual property protection.
List of Available Software
The University of Ottawa maintains an up-to-date list of software available to students, staff and professors. Before purchasing software for your research project, researchers should consult the list to determine which steps to follow.
